The Medical Laboratory Technologist at a leading American Hospital in Dubai, UAE . MLT plays a critical role in delivering accurate, timely, and high-quality diagnostic laboratory services that support patient care across multiple clinical departments. This position is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting advanced laboratory analyzers and equipment while ensuring full compliance with international quality standards and UAE healthcare regulations.

Job Responsibilities

  • The Medical Laboratory Technologist ensures the smooth and efficient operation of laboratory systems by performing routine calibration, preventive maintenance, and equipment performance verification in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • The role includes identifying technical issues, performing first-line troubleshooting, coordinating repair services when necessary, and maintaining accurate equipment inventory records.
  • The technologist also evaluates and supports the implementation of new laboratory instruments and testing methodologies to enhance diagnostic efficiency.
  • Daily responsibilities include performing internal quality control (QC) checks and participating in College of American Pathologists (CAP) proficiency testing programs to ensure accuracy, reliability, and compliance with global laboratory standards. The technologist actively monitors QC results, identifies deviations or biases, and initiates corrective and preventive actions as required.
  • The role involves managing laboratory consumables and reagents by monitoring stock levels, forecasting supply needs, placing timely orders, and ensuring proper receipt and storage of materials to avoid disruptions in laboratory operations.
  • A strong commitment to safety and hygiene is essential. The technologist maintains a clean, organized, and contamination-free laboratory environment while strictly adhering to infection control and occupational health and safety protocols.
  • Routine diagnostic testing is performed in accordance with established departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs), ensuring accuracy, consistency, and timely reporting of results. The technologist is also responsible for promptly communicating critical, urgent, and abnormal laboratory results to physicians to support immediate clinical decision-making.
  • Effective communication with healthcare professionals is a key part of the role, including coordination with nurses and physicians regarding patient preparation, specimen collection requirements, and sample integrity issues to ensure valid test outcomes.
  • The technologist is required to prioritize workload efficiently in a high-pressure clinical environment while maintaining accuracy and turnaround time standards. Compliance with CAP accreditation requirements, Dubai Health Authority (DHA) regulations, and internal hospital policies is strictly maintained at all times.
  • Ethical practice and patient confidentiality are fundamental responsibilities, ensuring all laboratory data and patient information are handled with the highest level of integrity.

The role also includes active participation in monthly laboratory quality meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

  • As a designated Quality Link for assigned laboratory sections, the Medical Laboratory Technologist works closely with the laboratory quality team to ensure continuous compliance and performance improvement.
  • This includes participating in regular quality meetings to discuss operational issues, reviewing daily QC data, and investigating deviations or inconsistencies.
  • The role involves detailed review of proficiency testing outcomes, investigation of failed parameters, and implementation of corrective actions to maintain accreditation standards. The technologist also investigates laboratory incidents, errors, and complaints related to their assigned section.
  • Additional responsibilities include supporting the preparation of monthly laboratory performance reports, including key performance indicators (KPIs), workload statistics, and quality metrics. The technologist assists section supervisors in method validation, method verification, and new test setup to ensure analytical accuracy and regulatory compliance.

Desired Candidate Profile – MLT Proffessional

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or a related scientific field
  • Valid Dubai Health Authority (DHA) license
  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist in a clinical laboratory setting
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory information systems and general computer applications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
