Healthcare and hospital Chain in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, is seeking a qualified Physiotherapist to join its outpatient healthcare team. The role involves assessing, diagnosing, treating, and rehabilitating patients experiencing physical difficulties due to illness, injury, disability, surgery, or age-related conditions.
The Physiotherapist will provide patient-centered physiotherapy services to improve mobility, restore physical function, reduce pain, and support recovery and overall well-being. The position involves working with patients across different age groups and clinical conditions, including musculoskeletal disorders, post-surgical rehabilitation, neurological conditions, sports injuries, and mobility-related challenges.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, rehabilitation professionals, and other members of the multidisciplinary healthcare team to deliver safe, effective, and evidence-based outpatient physiotherapy services. The role also requires compliance with Abu Dhabi healthcare regulations, hospital quality standards, infection control procedures, and occupational safety requirements.
Job Responsibilities
Patient Assessment and Physiotherapy Treatment
- Conduct comprehensive physiotherapy assessments to identify patients’ physical limitations, functional difficulties, pain levels, and rehabilitation needs.
- Evaluate patients’ mobility, muscle strength, joint range of motion, balance, coordination, posture, and physical performance.
- Develop individualized physiotherapy treatment plans based on clinical assessments, medical history, patient goals, and established clinical guidelines.
- Provide physiotherapy treatment for patients experiencing musculoskeletal, neurological, orthopedic, and mobility-related conditions in an outpatient hospital setting.
- Support patients recovering from surgical procedures, accidents, injuries, and other medical conditions affecting physical movement and function.
- Assist patients with joint and spinal problems through appropriate rehabilitation programs and therapeutic interventions.
- Provide rehabilitation support for patients with neurological conditions, including stroke-related mobility and functional difficulties, where applicable to the service.
- Apply appropriate physiotherapy techniques, including therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, mobility training, functional rehabilitation, and other clinically indicated treatment methods.
- Use physiotherapy equipment and therapeutic technologies, such as ultrasound and other approved modalities, in accordance with clinical indications, training, and hospital procedures.
- Monitor patients’ progress during treatment and modify physiotherapy programs based on their response, clinical findings, and rehabilitation goals.
- Educate patients and their caregivers on prescribed exercises, posture, mobility, injury prevention, and strategies for managing physical conditions.
- Provide guidance on home exercise programs and promote patient participation in ongoing rehabilitation.
- Recognize clinical changes, treatment-related concerns, and adverse events, and report them through the appropriate hospital procedures.
Outpatient Clinical Care and Documentation
- Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential patient medical records, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge recommendations.
- Document physiotherapy interventions and patient responses in accordance with hospital documentation standards.
- Review patient referrals, relevant medical records, and clinical information before initiating treatment.
- Ensure physiotherapy services are delivered within the scope of professional practice, clinical competence, and approved hospital policies.
- Maintain continuity of care by communicating relevant patient progress and rehabilitation requirements to the treating physician and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in patient follow-up, reassessment, and discharge planning as appropriate to the patient’s clinical needs.
- Collect and maintain relevant patient statistics and service activity data for reporting and quality improvement purposes.
- Protect patient confidentiality and comply with applicable healthcare privacy and information management requirements.
Multidisciplinary Teamwork and Patient Education
- Work as a professional member of the hospital’s multidisciplinary rehabilitation and clinical care team.
- Participate in team meetings, case discussions, and collaborative care planning.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, allied healthcare professionals, patients, and family members.
- Provide appropriate education to patients, caregivers, and relevant staff regarding physical rehabilitation, mobility support, and injury prevention.
- Contribute to patient education programs and rehabilitation awareness initiatives.
- Support the supervision, instruction, and guidance of physiotherapy assistants or aides, where assigned.
- Participate in continuing professional development programs, training sessions, and courses to maintain and improve physiotherapy knowledge and clinical skills.
- Keep up to date with evidence-based physiotherapy practices and relevant developments in rehabilitation care.
Equipment, Quality Management, and Safety
- Ensure physiotherapy equipment is used safely, appropriately, and in accordance with manufacturer instructions and hospital procedures.
- Check physiotherapy equipment and report maintenance requirements or equipment-related concerns to the Head of Department.
- Support the availability of required physiotherapy supplies and equipment by communicating operational needs to the relevant department.
- Ensure physiotherapy treatment is supported by current clinical evidence and appropriate professional standards.
- Participate in the hospital’s quality management system and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to clinical audits, patient satisfaction surveys, service evaluations, and needs assessments where required.
- Record and report adverse clinical events, incidents, near misses, and other patient safety concerns in accordance with hospital policy.
- Identify potential workplace hazards and report them to the appropriate department.
- Contribute to the implementation of safe systems of work and the ongoing maintenance of a safe clinical environment.
- Comply with occupational safety and health (OSH) policies, infection prevention and control procedures, and hospital safety standards.
- Follow established emergency response and evacuation procedures.
- Participate in occupational safety, infection control, mock drills, and other mandatory hospital training programs.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow established safety precautions when delivering patient care.
- Comply with clinical waste segregation, handling, and disposal procedures.
- Support the hospital’s continuous improvement activities and contribute to maintaining high standards of outpatient physiotherapy care.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Head of Department or Medical Director, within the scope of professional practice.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Physiotherapy or an equivalent qualification from an approved and recognized college or university.
- Valid Department of Health (DOH), formerly HAAD, professional license or eligibility to practice as a Physiotherapist in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant professional experience as a Physiotherapist in a JCI-accredited hospital facility, preferably with experience in outpatient clinical services.
- Valid professional registration or license in the country of origin, where applicable.
- Experience in physiotherapy assessment, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and patient progress monitoring.
- Knowledge of musculoskeletal, orthopedic, neurological, post-surgical, and general rehabilitation principles.
- Ability to develop and implement individualized treatment programs based on patient assessment and clinical requirements.
- Familiarity with therapeutic exercises, manual therapy, mobility training, and other evidence-based physiotherapy techniques.
- Strong understanding of patient safety, infection prevention and control, clinical documentation, and healthcare quality standards.
- Excellent written and spoken English communication skills.
- Arabic language proficiency is an advantage but is not mandatory, unless required by the hospital or specific patient population.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare team in a hospital environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently with appropriate clinical supervision and professional accountability.
