Job Responsibilities
Laboratory Testing and Clinical Laboratory Operations
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests on blood, urine, and other patient specimens according to approved laboratory procedures and test specifications.
- Receive, identify, label, process, and prepare patient specimens for analysis while maintaining proper specimen integrity and traceability.
- Work efficiently within clinical labs to ensure laboratory investigations are completed accurately and within required turnaround times.
- Review test requests and prioritize laboratory testing based on clinical urgency, specimen stability, and patient care requirements.
- Follow established procedures for specimen collection, preparation, testing, storage, and disposal in a medical laboratory environment.
- Ensure test results are accurately recorded, reviewed, validated, and reported through the laboratory information system or approved reporting procedures.
Blood Chemistry and Biochemistry Testing
- Perform blood chemistry and biochemical laboratory investigations using approved analytical methods and laboratory instruments.
- Analyze patient samples for applicable biochemical parameters according to laboratory protocols and reference ranges.
- Monitor analytical performance and identify results that require repeat testing, verification, or further investigation.
- Perform calibration, quality checks, and routine maintenance of chemistry analyzers to support accurate and reliable test results.

Hemogram and Hematology Testing
- Perform hemogram tests and other hematology investigations on blood specimens using automated and manual laboratory techniques where applicable.

- Perform hormone panel tests and related endocrine laboratory investigations according to validated laboratory procedures.
- Process and analyze appropriate patient specimens for hormone testing using approved laboratory analyzers and methodologies.
- Ensure correct specimen handling, storage, preparation, and testing conditions for hormone-related investigations.
- Review hormone panel test results for analytical accuracy and follow established procedures for repeat testing or result verification when required.
- Maintain appropriate quality control records for hormone testing and report any analytical issues to the responsible laboratory supervisor.
Pathology Laboratory and Specimen Processing
- Support diagnostic activities within the pathology lab by accurately receiving, processing, preparing, and handling patient specimens.
- Ensure specimens are correctly identified and matched with the relevant patient information and laboratory request.
- Follow established procedures for specimen acceptance and rejection, including requirements relating to labeling, quantity, condition, and transportation.
- Maintain specimen traceability throughout the laboratory testing process and ensure appropriate storage following analysis.
- Handle biological specimens using appropriate infection-control, biosafety, and personal protective equipment procedures.
- Dispose of laboratory waste and biological materials according to applicable laboratory safety and environmental requirements.
Blood Draw and Specimen Collection
- Perform or assist with blood draw and venous blood specimen collection when included within the scope of the role and applicable professional requirements.
- Verify patient identification and laboratory test requests before specimen collection.
- Select appropriate collection tubes and ensure specimens are collected, labeled, transported, and processed according to laboratory requirements.

Quality Control and Result Validation
- Perform daily and periodic quality control procedures for laboratory testing platforms and analytical systems.

Job Qualifications

- Alternatively, graduation from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) program leading to registration with ASCP, ASCLS, CSMLS, AIMS, or another recognized IFBLS institution.
