Microbiologist -Responsibilities
- Receive, identify, and examine microbiological samples submitted to the laboratory.
- Verify sample identification, labeling, quantity, condition, and accompanying documentation before testing.
- Perform microbiological analysis of food, water, environmental, and other applicable samples according to approved laboratory procedures.
- Prepare samples, culture media, reagents, and laboratory materials required for microbiological testing.

- Record laboratory observations, test results, calculations, and analytical information accurately.
- Review microbiological test results and identify unusual, out-of-specification, or potentially abnormal findings.
- Report test results and laboratory observations to the Laboratory Manager or relevant department head when required.
- Maintain accurate laboratory worksheets, test records, sample registers, and other microbiology documentation.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of microbiological samples, cultures, and laboratory waste in accordance with laboratory procedures.
- Follow laboratory biosafety, hygiene, health, and safety procedures when handling microbiological materials.
- Perform routine checks of microbiology laboratory equipment and report equipment-related issues to the responsible personnel.
- Ensure that laboratory instruments, glassware, media, reagents, and other testing materials are appropriately maintained and available for routine analysis.
- Participate in quality control activities, including the use of appropriate controls and reference materials where required.
- Assist with internal quality checks, laboratory audits, proficiency testing, and other quality assurance activities.
Sample Traceability
- Maintain proper chain of custody and sample traceability throughout the microbiological testing process.
- Coordinate with sample collection and laboratory teams to clarify sample information or testing requirements when necessary.
- Support timely completion of microbiological testing and laboratory reports.
- Prepare or contribute to microbiology reports and laboratory documentation required by clients or regulatory authorities.
- Follow applicable Dubai Municipality requirements and other relevant regulatory or laboratory requirements where applicable.
- Ensure that microbiological testing is conducted according to approved laboratory methods, client specifications, and quality management procedures.
- Investigate testing discrepancies or unusual microbiological results and communicate findings to the responsible laboratory personnel.

Microbiologist Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Biotechnology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Previous experience working as a Microbiologist, Laboratory Technician, Microbiology Technician, Food Microbiologist, or Laboratory Analyst is preferred.
- Experience in a food testing laboratory, water testing laboratory, environmental laboratory, pharmaceutical laboratory, healthcare laboratory, or similar analytical laboratory environment is an advantage.
- Strong understanding of basic microbiology laboratory techniques and microbiological testing procedures.
- Knowledge of sample preparation, dilution techniques, culture methods, incubation, microbial enumeration, and result interpretation.
- Familiarity with microbiological testing of food, water, environmental, or other relevant samples.
