A healthcare organization in Dubai is seeking a Certified Medical Coder to support its healthcare administration and medical billing operations. The Certified Medical Coder will be responsible for reviewing clinical documentation and accurately translating diagnoses, procedures, treatments, and healthcare services into standardized medical codes for billing, insurance claims, reporting, and medical records.
The ideal candidate should have strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, healthcare documentation, and coding standards. Experience using medical coding software -like 3M 360 Encompass System, Oracle Health (Cerner) and familiarity with healthcare information systems will be an advantage.
Key Responsibilities
Medical Coding & Documentation
- Review and analyse patient medical records to identify diagnoses, procedures, treatments, and services requiring coding.
- Assign accurate ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS codes based on clinical documentation and applicable coding guidelines.
- Ensure medical codes accurately reflect the services provided and documented by physicians and healthcare professionals.
- Review medical documentation for completeness, accuracy, and consistency before assigning codes.
- Identify missing or unclear information and communicate with physicians and healthcare providers when clarification is required.
- Use medical coding software and hospital information systems to complete coding and documentation tasks efficiently.
- Maintain accurate coding records while protecting the confidentiality and integrity of patient information.
Healthcare Administration & Billing
- Work closely with medical billing, insurance, claims, and healthcare administration teams.
- Investigate coding discrepancies and assist in resolving insurance claim denials and rejected claims.
- Ensure coding practices comply with applicable healthcare regulations, payer requirements, organizational policies, and industry standards.
- Support internal coding audits and quality-assurance activities.
- Maintain accurate documentation required for billing, reimbursement, reporting, and compliance purposes.
- Collaborate with healthcare administration teams to improve the accuracy and efficiency of coding and claims processes.
Coding Quality & Compliance
- Maintain a high level of accuracy when assigning medical codes and reviewing clinical documentation.
- Follow established coding guidelines, regulatory requirements, and organizational procedures.
- Stay updated with changes in ICD, CPT, HCPCS, insurance requirements, and healthcare coding practices.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to medical coding, billing, documentation, and healthcare administration.
- Maintain professional standards when handling confidential patient and healthcare information.
Professional Development
- Participate in staff education, induction programmes, peer reviews, case studies, training sessions, and departmental meetings.
- Support the orientation and training of new employees when required.
- Maintain professional knowledge through seminars, lectures, workshops, online learning, and industry training.
- Complete required licensing, certification, and mandatory training within specified timelines.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, healthcare documentation, and coding regulations.

Qualifications
- Certification in medical coding such as CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), or an equivalent recognized qualification.
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Good understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and clinical documentation.
- Experience with medical coding software, electronic medical records (EMR/EHR), and hospital information systems.
- Knowledge of healthcare billing, insurance claims, coding compliance, and revenue-cycle processes is an advantage.
- Candidates with experience working with healthcare providers, hospitals, clinics, insurance companies, or medical coding companies may be preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
- Ability to identify coding discrepancies and resolve documentation-related issues.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with physicians, healthcare professionals, billing teams, and administrative staff.
- Proficiency in IT applications and healthcare information systems.
- Fluent in spoken and written English; knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

Preferred Certification
