Laboratory Technician to support laboratory testing, equipment setup, test execution, sample evaluation, and technical reporting for client projects in Abu Dhabi. The role involves working closely with engineers, technical teams, management, and customers to ensure tests are performed accurately and in accordance with approved procedures, test plans, and applicable international standards.

The successful candidate should have good technical understanding, strong attention to detail, effective communication skills, and the ability to operate laboratory and testing equipment with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and adapt laboratory testing equipment and test arrangements according to project requirements.
  • Prepare test setups and equipment in accordance with approved test plans, datasheets, engineering instructions, and applicable testing procedures.
  • Examine customer samples and determine the appropriate testing approach under the required level of supervision.
  • Perform laboratory and technical tests according to approved procedures, standards, limit values, severity levels, and defined evaluation criteria.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, equipment instructions, and technical documentation.
  • Operate designated laboratory machines, measuring instruments, and specialized testing equipment safely and correctly.
  • Evaluate test performance, sample operation, measurements, and observations to determine accurate test results.
  • Record measured and calculated data accurately using appropriate laboratory forms, datasheets, and reporting systems.
  • Prepare clear and complete test reports and data sheets based on test findings.
  • Communicate with customers during test setup and execution to clarify test methods, requirements, and results when required.
  • Work closely with engineers and technical management and report test data, observations, and issues in a timely manner.
  • Build or modify testing arrangements and equipment for new test situations based on engineering instructions and technical datasheets.
  • Perform routine maintenance of laboratory equipment and maintain the laboratory and testing area in a clean and operational condition.
  • Assist with basic calibration activities for designated testing and measuring equipment.
  • Identify equipment, process, or testing problems and recommend practical solutions.
  • Provide suggestions for new equipment designs, testing processes, forms, and procedures to improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives within laboratory testing operations.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant testing standards, procedures, and laboratory technologies.
  • Follow all applicable laboratory safety, quality, documentation, and operational requirements.
  • May assist in directing or guiding other staff during laboratory test setups.
  • Perform tests and evaluate results with minimal supervision within clearly defined responsibilities.
  • May assist with planning tests and preparing technical opinions or interpretations under the direction of qualified engineering personnel.

Required Qualifications

  • Higher Secondary Education or equivalent qualification.
  • Three years of relevant laboratory, testing, technical, or engineering-related experience is preferred.
  • Experience working with laboratory or electrical/mechanical testing equipment will be an advantage.
  • Ability to understand and follow technical instructions, test procedures, datasheets, and standards.
  • Good understanding of measurements, test methods, and recording of technical data.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy when performing tests and documenting results.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with customers, engineers, and technical personnel.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Creative and innovative approach to identifying testing and equipment-related solutions.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a technical and team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision once trained.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Ability and willingness to incorporate basic automation and technology into day-to-day testing activities.

Preferred Technical Knowledge

Knowledge or practical exposure to the following standards will be an added advantage:

  • IEC 61439 series – Low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies
  • IEC 60529 – Degrees of protection provided by enclosures (IP Code)
  • IEC 62208 – Empty enclosures for low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies
  • IEC 61921 – Low-voltage power factor correction equipment
  • Related IEC standards and laboratory testing procedures
