Medical Laboratory Technologist – Microbiology to join the advanced diagnostic laboratory team at a hospital in Dubai. This role is ideal for an experienced laboratory professional with strong expertise in microbiology testing, quality control, and regulatory compliance within a hospital or clinical laboratory setting.
The successful candidate will perform routine and specialized microbiology tests in accordance with international laboratory standards, accreditation requirements, and patient safety protocols.
The Medical Laboratory Technologist – Microbiology is responsible for conducting routine and advanced microbiology investigations to support accurate diagnosis, treatment planning, and infection control management. The role ensures compliance with professional guidelines, international accreditation standards, and UAE healthcare regulations.
Job Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized microbiology laboratory tests in accordance with approved clinical laboratory standards and regulatory guidelines.
- Conduct microbiology cultures including bacteriological analysis, organism identification, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing.
- Perform microscopic examinations, gram staining, and bacteriological evaluations.
- Conduct molecular diagnostics including PCR testing for respiratory infections, meningitis panels, and gastroenterology pathogens.
- Perform serological testing, urine analysis, and rapid diagnostic tests to support patient diagnosis and treatment decisions.
- Coordinate prioritization, sorting, labeling, and processing of laboratory specimens to ensure timely and accurate results.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and documentation of all laboratory samples in compliance with infection control and biosafety protocols.
- Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory analysers and diagnostic equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Maintain accurate temperature logs, equipment maintenance records, and calibration documentation.
- Contribute to laboratory quality improvement initiatives focused on risk mitigation, regulatory compliance, and enhanced patient safety.
- Participate in internal and external quality assurance programs and accreditation audits.
- Assist in the development and revision of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for microbiology testing.
- Guide and support junior laboratory staff in microbiology techniques, safety procedures, and quality standards.
- Actively participate in occupational health and safety initiatives, ensuring adherence to laboratory biosafety regulations.
Job Qualifications – MLT
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Microbiology, or a related healthcare laboratory discipline.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of full-time experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist specializing in Microbiology within a hospital or accredited clinical laboratory.
- Proven experience in microbiology cultures, PCR testing, serology, and bacteriological diagnostics.
Microbiologist – MLT
- Strong knowledge of microbiology laboratory procedures and diagnostic techniques.
- Expertise in maintaining laboratory instrumentation in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
- Experience in performing quality control checks and troubleshooting laboratory analysers.
- Knowledge of approved international accreditation standards such as CAP, JCI, or equivalent laboratory regulatory frameworks.
- Experience developing and updating laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Proficiency in Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) for documentation, reporting, and result validation.
- Strong understanding of laboratory terminology relevant to microbiology and clinical diagnostics.
- Knowledge of infection control standards, biosafety regulations, and compliance governance.
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
