As a pioneer in post-acute and complex care, Amana Healthcare delivers patient-centered rehabilitation services designed to support individuals recovering from serious illness, injury, surgery, neurological conditions, and other complex medical needs.
The Senior Physiotherapist is responsible for assessing patients referred for physiotherapy, developing individualized rehabilitation programs, delivering evidence-based therapeutic interventions, and monitoring patient progress throughout the rehabilitation journey. The role requires strong clinical expertise, sound knowledge of anatomy and physiology, evidence-based physiotherapy practice, and the ability to provide safe, effective, and patient-centered care across different stages of life and recovery.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, speech therapists, rehabilitation specialists, caregivers, and other members of the multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive physiotherapy assessments for patients referred for rehabilitation and identify physical, functional, mobility, and movement-related limitations.
- Review and interpret medical and physiotherapy referrals, patient histories, diagnostic information, and clinical findings to determine appropriate rehabilitation needs.
- Develop individualized, evidence-based physiotherapy treatment plans based on each patient’s clinical condition, functional goals, medical requirements, and rehabilitation potential.
- Establish measurable, realistic, and patient-centered short-term and long-term rehabilitation goals in collaboration with patients, families, caregivers, and the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Provide a wide range of physiotherapy interventions to improve mobility, strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, endurance, physical function, independence, and quality of life.
- Deliver therapeutic exercise programs, mobility training, functional rehabilitation, positioning, transfers, gait training, and other clinically appropriate physiotherapy interventions.
- Monitor patient response to treatment and modify physiotherapy programs according to clinical progress, changing medical conditions, functional outcomes, and rehabilitation goals.
- Use appropriate standardized assessment tools and outcome measures to objectively evaluate treatment effectiveness and patient progress.
- Identify changes in patient condition, clinical risks, deterioration, or complications and escalate concerns appropriately in accordance with established clinical protocols.
- Promote patient safety by conducting ongoing risk assessments and following infection prevention, falls prevention, manual handling, mobility, and other relevant safety procedures.
- Educate patients and their families or caregivers about prescribed exercises, mobility techniques, positioning, precautions, self-management strategies, and rehabilitation goals.
- Provide appropriate advice regarding physical activity, functional independence, health promotion, prevention of complications, and continuation of rehabilitation after discharge.
- Support patients in achieving maximum functional independence and safely participating in activities of daily living and community-based activities where appropriate.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and comprehensive clinical documentation, including physiotherapy assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, outcome measures, discharge summaries, and other required records.
- Ensure all physiotherapy documentation complies with organizational policies, professional standards, confidentiality requirements, and applicable DOH/DHA regulations.
- Participate actively in multidisciplinary team meetings, case conferences, care planning, discharge planning, and patient reviews.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, rehabilitation professionals, caregivers, and other healthcare providers.
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of individualized patient care plans.
- Apply current evidence-based physiotherapy practices and maintain awareness of developments in rehabilitation science, clinical guidelines, and professional standards.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement programs, patient safety initiatives, and service development activities.
- Support clinical education, mentoring, supervision, and knowledge-sharing activities for junior physiotherapists and other relevant staff where required.
- Maintain professional competence through continuing professional development, training, workshops, clinical education, and relevant specialty certifications.
- Ensure physiotherapy services are delivered in accordance with M42, DOH/DHA, professional licensing, accreditation, clinical governance, and healthcare quality requirements.
- Contribute to a culture of compassionate, respectful, inclusive, and patient-centered care throughout the rehabilitation process.
Qualifications and Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Physiotherapy, Physical Therapy, or an equivalent recognized qualification.
- A recognized Master’s Degree in Physiotherapy, Physical Therapy, Rehabilitation, or a relevant specialty will be an advantage.
- Valid professional licensing or eligibility to practice as a physiotherapist in accordance with applicable DOH/DHA requirements.
- Relevant specialty qualifications or professional certifications appropriate to the clinician’s area of practice, where applicable.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced life support certifications such as ACLS and/or PALS may be required depending on the clinical specialty and scope of practice.
- Evidence of continuing professional development and commitment to maintaining current clinical competencies.
Experience – Physiotherapist
- Minimum 6 years of post-qualification physiotherapy experience.
- Relevant experience in long-term care, post-acute care, rehabilitation, transitional care, or complex healthcare environments.
- Experience managing patients with complex medical, physical, neurological, orthopedic, or functional rehabilitation needs is highly desirable.
- Previous experience working within a CARF- or JCI-accredited healthcare organization is preferred.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing individualized physiotherapy and rehabilitation programs.
- Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary healthcare or rehabilitation team.
- Strong understanding of evidence-based physiotherapy practice, clinical assessment, rehabilitation planning, and outcome measurement.
- Experience working in a regulated healthcare environment and maintaining compliance with clinical, professional, and patient safety standards.
