Key Responsibilities of the MLT Phlebotomist

The selected candidate will play an essential role in laboratory and home healthcare services by ensuring safe, accurate, and timely specimen collection procedures.

Specimen Collection & Venipuncture

  • Perform venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures accurately for patients of all age groups including neonates, pediatric patients, adults, and geriatric patients.
  • Handle difficult blood draw situations professionally while ensuring patient comfort and safety.
  • Follow established laboratory procedures and clinical protocols during blood collection and specimen handling.

Home Collection Services

  • Conduct home sample collection visits according to assigned schedules and operational requirements.
  • Provide professional and compassionate patient care during home healthcare visits.
  • Ensure proper preparation before sample collection and provide post-collection care instructions to patients.

Sample Handling & Laboratory Coordination

  • Maintain specimen integrity throughout collection, labeling, storage, transportation, and laboratory submission.
  • Ensure accurate documentation, labeling, and chain of custody procedures for all collected samples.
  • Coordinate effectively with laboratory teams to ensure timely delivery and processing of specimens.

Infection Control & Safety

  • Follow strict infection prevention and control guidelines during all procedures.
  • Adhere to biohazard handling protocols and healthcare safety regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and proper maintenance of phlebotomy tools, medical equipment, and collection supplies.

Patient Experience & Service Quality

  • Deliver guest-centered healthcare services with professionalism and empathy.
  • Address patient concerns respectfully and escalate incidents or complications to supervisors when necessary.
  • Support healthcare service quality initiatives by maintaining high standards of patient satisfaction.

Administrative & Operational Duties

  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and laboratory information at all times.
  • Utilize health information systems and Microsoft Office applications for documentation and reporting.
  • Support overtime and flexible working schedules for home collection assignments outside regular working hours.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Medical Sciences or related healthcare field.
  • Certification in Phlebotomy will be considered an added advantage.

Experience Required

  • Minimum 1–2 years of professional experience in phlebotomy or specimen collection.
  • Previous experience in home healthcare sample collection services is preferred.

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of laboratory procedures and specimen handling protocols.
  • Familiarity with Health Information Systems (HIS) and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong understanding of infection control and laboratory safety standards.

Language Requirements

  • Fluent in English and Arabic (both spoken and written).

Additional Requirements

  • Valid UAE driving license is mandatory.
  • Ability to travel for home collection assignments using personal transportation when required.
