A leading genomic solutions company in Dubai is looking for a skilled and motivated Bioinformatics Research Assistanr Executive to join its computational bioinformatics team. The role will focus on processing, analysing, and interpreting sequencing and genomic data to support biodiversity research, population genetics, ecological monitoring, conservation programmes, and genomic projects.

The successful candidate will work closely with laboratory, genetics, and field teams to develop reliable bioinformatics workflows, analyse complex sequencing datasets, and translate computational results into meaningful scientific insights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Process and analyse next-generation sequencing (NGS) and genomic datasets for biodiversity, population genetics, conservation, and ecological monitoring programmes.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and optimise bioinformatics pipelines for routine genomic analyses.
  • Perform analyses such as taxonomic assignment, SNP calling, population structure, heterozygosity, F-statistics, and genetic relatedness.
  • Analyse and interpret genomic datasets using computational approaches including PCA, ADMIXTURE, and phylogenetic analysis.
  • Support genome assembly and genomic analysis workflows, including projects involving long-read sequencing technologies such as Oxford Nanopore.
  • Work with both short-read and long-read sequencing data, including Illumina and Oxford Nanopore datasets.
  • Ensure the quality, integrity, traceability, and reproducibility of bioinformatics analyses throughout the data-processing workflow.
  • Collaborate with laboratory scientists, geneticists, field teams, and project stakeholders to understand analytical requirements and deliver appropriate computational solutions.
  • Manage, curate, organise, and document genomic datasets according to internal data governance procedures and scientific best practices.
  • Prepare clear technical reports, data summaries, genomic analysis results, and data visualisations for technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain scripts, computational tools, pipelines, workflows, and technical documentation.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the efficiency, scalability, reproducibility, and reliability of existing bioinformatics workflows.
  • Maintain appropriate records of analytical methods, software, parameters, datasets, and results to support reproducibility and knowledge sharing.
  • Stay updated with emerging bioinformatics tools, genomic technologies, sequencing platforms, and computational analysis methods.

Qualifications

  • BSc or MSc degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Genomics, Genetics, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology, Life Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant bioinformatics or computational biology experience. Relevant PhD experience may also be considered.
  • Practical experience working in bioinformatics or computational biology. Relevant PhD experience may also be considered.
  • Practical experience working with short-read and long-read sequencing datasets, particularly Illumina and Oxford Nanopore.
  • Strong knowledge of computational bioinformatics like Unix/Linux environments and command-line bioinformatics workflows.
  • Proficiency in at least one scripting/programming language such as Python or R.
  • Experience developing or working with bioinformatics pipelines and workflow management systems such as Nextflow or Snakemake.
  • Familiarity with commonly used bioinformatics tools such as BWA, GATK, SAMtools, ANGSD, and STACKS.
  • Strong understanding of genomic data analysis, SNP calling, taxonomic assignment, population genomics, and population genetic analysis.
  • Experience with computational approaches such as PCA, ADMIXTURE, phylogenetic analysis, population structure, and genetic diversity analysis.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, data interpretation, and computational skills.
  • Good understanding of data quality, reproducibility, version control, and bioinformatics best practices.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate complex computational and genomic findings clearly to non-specialist stakeholders.
