Medical Coder Outpatient – Healthcare

Certified Medical coding professional to join a healthcare team in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The ideal candidate will have experience in outpatient medical coding, assigning accurate diagnosis and procedure codes, ensuring compliance with UAE healthcare regulations, and maintaining the highest standards of coding accuracy and documentation.

This opportunity is ideal for professionals with expertise in ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, DRG, Evaluation & Management (E&M) coding, and familiarity with Department of Health (DOH Abu Dhabi) coding standards.

Job Responsibilities

• Assign accurate ICD-9, ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, DRG, and other approved medical codes based on physician documentation and clinical records.
• Review outpatient medical records to ensure diagnoses, procedures, and treatments are coded accurately and completely.
• Verify physician documentation to ensure compliance with coding regulations and reimbursement requirements.
• Abstract clinical information including:
  • Primary diagnosis
  • Secondary diagnoses
  • Co-morbidities
  • Complications
  • Procedures performed
• Determine the appropriate Diagnosis Related Group (DRG) where applicable.
• Review physician documentation to ensure the correct Evaluation and Management (E&M) level is assigned.
• Identify incomplete or inconsistent documentation and communicate with physicians for clarification.
• Ensure coding complies with Department of Health (DOH Abu Dhabi) regulations, coding guidelines, and organizational policies.
• Maintain high coding accuracy while meeting productivity targets.
• Participate in coding audits and quality improvement initiatives.

• Assist physicians by providing feedback on documentation improvement opportunities.
• Train and mentor Medical Coders and Medical Records Technicians on updated coding guidelines and best practices.
• Stay updated with changes in ICD coding systems, CPT revisions, HCPCS updates, DRG classifications, and healthcare regulations.
• Generate coding reports and maintain accurate coding documentation.
• Support revenue cycle management by ensuring accurate coding for claims submission.
• Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with healthcare privacy standards.
• Perform additional duties assigned by the Head of Department.

Occupational Safety & Infection Control Responsibilities

• Follow all Occupational Safety & Health (OSH) policies and hospital safety procedures.
• Adhere to Infection Prevention and Control guidelines at all times.
• Participate in emergency response drills and mandatory safety training.
• Report workplace hazards, incidents, near misses, and unsafe practices.
• Follow hospital waste segregation and biomedical waste management procedures.
• Wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while performing assigned duties.
• Support continuous compliance with healthcare quality and patient safety standards.

Job Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Allied Health Sciences, Biology, Health Information Management, or a related healthcare discipline.
• 2–4 years of experience in outpatient medical coding within a hospital, clinic, or healthcare organization.
• Strong knowledge of:
  • ICD-10-CM
  • ICD-9
  • CPT
  • HCPCS
  • DRG
  • Evaluation & Management (E&M) Coding
• Good understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and disease processes.
• Experience working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR/EHR) systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently while meeting productivity and quality benchmarks.

Certifications – Medical Coder Abu Dhabi

Candidates should possess one of the following certifications:

• Certified Coding Associate (CCA) – AHIMA
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) – AAPC

Additional coding certifications are considered an advantage.
