A medical laboratory in Sharjah, UAE is looking for a qualified and experienced Phlebotomist to join its laboratory team. The ideal candidate should have hands-on experience in blood collection, specimen handling, infection control, and patient care, with the appropriate UAE healthcare licensing.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform venipuncture and blood collection for pediatric, adult, pregnant, and geriatric patients using appropriate techniques, devices, and collection equipment.
- Verify patient identification, laboratory test requests, medical history, and other relevant information before specimen collection.
- Collect, label, process, store, and transport blood, urine, culture, and other laboratory specimens accurately and safely.
- Ensure that high-quality, adequate specimens are obtained while minimizing patient discomfort and, where possible, completing collection within the first two attempts.
- Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients and provide appropriate instructions before, during, and after specimen collection.
- Handle STAT, scheduled, and outpatient laboratory requests efficiently to ensure timely specimen collection and processing.
- Follow strict aseptic techniques, hygiene, infection prevention, infection control, and patient safety procedures.
- Maintain proper documentation and specimen traceability throughout the pre-analytical process.
- Ensure compliance with applicable M42, DOH/DHA, laboratory accreditation, CAP, and ISO quality requirements, as relevant to the facility.
- Maintain phlebotomy equipment, workstations, and collection areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
- Report specimen-related issues, identification discrepancies, collection difficulties, and other pre-analytical errors according to laboratory procedures.
Job Qualifications
- Completion of an approved Phlebotomy Program and/or a minimum 6-month program in Medical Laboratory Sciences.
- Minimum 1 year of post-qualification experience working as a Phlebotomist.
- Valid DOH/DHA Medical License and relevant professional/specialty qualification, as applicable.
- BLS certification is required.
- ACLS/PALS certification will be an advantage where relevant to the specialty.
- Strong practical knowledge of venipuncture, blood collection, specimen handling, labeling, transportation, infection control, and laboratory safety.
- Good understanding of pre-analytical laboratory procedures and quality standards.
- Strong patient-care and communication skills.
- Good English communication skills are required.
- Arabic language proficiency will be an advantage.
