Job Overview
The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible for performing routine and specialized laboratory tests, handling patient specimens, and ensuring accurate and timely reporting of diagnostic results. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, and laboratory teams to deliver reliable data that supports effective patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Specimen Collection & Processing
- Collect, receive, and properly label patient samples including blood, urine, tissue, and saliva.
- Prepare specimens for testing while maintaining strict adherence to laboratory protocols.
- Ensure all samples meet quality and documentation standards in line with healthcare regulations in the UAE.
Laboratory Testing & Analysis
- Perform a wide range of clinical laboratory tests using both automated analyzers and manual techniques.
- Accurately analyze and interpret test results, ensuring precision and reliability.
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment such as hematology analyzers, centrifuges, and microscopes.
Quality Control & Assurance
- Conduct routine quality control (QC) checks to validate test accuracy and consistency.
- Maintain detailed records of quality assurance (QA) activities and ensure compliance with laboratory standards.
- Identify and report discrepancies or abnormalities in test results.
Data Entry & Documentation
- Input laboratory results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS) accurately and efficiently.
- Maintain comprehensive records of procedures, test outcomes, and patient data.
- Ensure confidentiality and proper handling of sensitive medical information.
Team Collaboration & Communication
- Coordinate with doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals regarding laboratory findings.
- Work collaboratively with laboratory staff to ensure efficient workflow and timely reporting.
- Assist in resolving technical or operational issues within the lab.
Compliance & Safety
- Follow all laboratory safety protocols, infection control procedures, and biohazard handling guidelines.
- Ensure compliance with UAE healthcare regulations, including DOH, DHA, and MOH standards.
- Support internal and external audits by maintaining documentation and readiness.
Continuous Learning & Development
- Stay updated on advancements in medical laboratory technology and diagnostic techniques.
- Participate in training programs, workshops, and professional development initiatives.
Qualifications – MLT
- Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related field with a minimum of 2 years of experience in a clinical diagnostics laboratory
OR - Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology with at least 3 years of relevant experience
- Valid certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from a recognized institution
- Eligibility letter or license from DOH / DHA / MOH is mandatory
- Prior experience in a hospital, diagnostic center, or clinical laboratory is highly preferred
- Hands-on experience with laboratory equipment and diagnostic procedures
