A leading healthcare and hospital organization in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, is seeking a MLT -Laboratory Technology Specialist to join its clinical laboratory team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing accurate diagnostic laboratory testing, maintaining quality standards, operating laboratory equipment, managing documentation, and supporting safe and efficient laboratory operations in accordance with healthcare regulations and laboratory best practices.
The role requires strong technical expertise in Medical Laboratory Technology, clinical diagnostics, quality control, laboratory safety, and specimen management. The candidate should have hands-on experience in a hospital or clinical laboratory environment and the ability to work independently while maintaining the highest standards of patient care and laboratory accuracy.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Laboratory Testing & Analysis
- Perform analytical testing on patient specimens according to established laboratory procedures and protocols.
- Ensure accurate processing, analysis, and reporting of laboratory test results.
- Handle biological specimens safely while following infection control and laboratory safety guidelines.
- Maintain specimen identification, tracking, and integrity throughout the testing process.
- Record and maintain specimen details, test results, and laboratory logs accurately.
Quality Control & Laboratory Compliance
- Perform and monitor internal quality control (IQC) procedures to ensure reliability and accuracy of laboratory results.
- Participate in external quality assessment (EQA) and proficiency testing programs.
- Maintain quality control records, documentation, and corrective action reports.
- Support implementation of laboratory quality management systems and hospital quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory accreditation standards and healthcare regulations.
Laboratory Equipment Operation & Maintenance
- Perform daily operation, calibration, and maintenance of analytical laboratory equipment.
- Maintain equipment maintenance records, service logs, and troubleshooting documentation.
- Ensure instruments are functioning properly and report equipment issues promptly.
- Follow preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and ensure continuous laboratory service.
Reagents, Consumables & Inventory Management
- Prepare laboratory reagents and solutions as required.
- Maintain proper storage conditions for reagents, chemicals, and laboratory supplies.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure availability of essential laboratory materials.
- Verify expiry dates, storage temperatures, and quality conditions of reagents and consumables.
- Maintain chemical inventory records and coordinate with the Laboratory Safety Officer regarding safety requirements.
Result Validation & Reporting
- Identify and escalate urgent, critical, and abnormal laboratory results to the appropriate laboratory consultant/specialist for communication with the requesting physician.
- Release out-of-hours laboratory results according to approved procedures and submit copies for consultant verification.
- Ensure confidentiality, accuracy, and timely reporting of patient results.
- Maintain daily statistics, worksheets, reports, and laboratory documentation.
Histopathology Support Duties (As Assigned)
Under the direction of the Head of Laboratory, may perform duties within the Histopathology section, including:
- Processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining fixed tissue samples.
- Preparing Haematoxylin and Eosin (H&E) stained slides from tissue blocks.
- Preparing and staining frozen sections and cytology specimens.
- Performing special stains and immunocytochemistry procedures on selected cases.
- Maintaining histopathology reagents, consumables, and laboratory supplies.
- Ensuring proper handling and documentation of tissue specimens.
Documentation & Laboratory Safety
- Maintain updated laboratory documents, worksheets, procedures, and records.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, laboratory procedures, and safety standards.
- Maintain appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow occupational health and safety requirements.
- Support chemical safety procedures and proper handling of hazardous materials.
- Participate in competency assessments and professional development activities.
Quality Improvement & Department Support
- Implement laboratory policies and procedures to support hospital goals and quality standards.
- Participate in performance improvement activities and laboratory audits.
- Contribute to maintaining high standards of patient care, diagnostic accuracy, and operational efficiency.
- Perform additional responsibilities assigned by the Head of Laboratory within professional scope and expertise.
Qualifications -MLT
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology (B.Sc. MLT).
- Minimum 1–2 years of post-B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology experience in a clinical or hospital laboratory environment.
OR
- Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (minimum 4-year program).
- Minimum 4 years of post-diploma experience in medical laboratory services.
- Experience working in hospital laboratories, diagnostic centers, or healthcare institutions.
- Knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures, quality control systems, and laboratory safety practices.
- Experience with laboratory information systems (LIS) is preferred.
- Familiarity with accreditation standards and healthcare quality requirements.
