A laboratory in UAE is looking for a Microbiologist with 1–6 years of laboratory experience. The role involves microbiological testing, sample preparation, laboratory quality control, equipment operation, documentation, and compliance with health, safety, environmental, and quality requirements.

Candidates with experience in oilfield microbiology, molecular microbiology, PCR, qPCR, DNA extraction, and microbiological culture methods will have an advantage.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine microbiological laboratory testing and accurately record observations, results, calculations, and analysis.
  • Conduct microbiological analysis using culture-based methods, including Most Probable Number (MPN) techniques.
  • Prepare microbiological cultures, growth media, chemical samples, and laboratory test solutions.
  • Perform sample preparation for microbiological examination, microscopy, photography, and selected chemical analyses.
  • Apply aseptic and sterile techniques during laboratory procedures to prevent contamination.
  • Assist senior microbiologists and laboratory personnel with experiments, research activities, literature reviews, data interpretation, and laboratory projects.
  • Support laboratory quality control activities to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and consistency of test results.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment including autoclaves, incubators, centrifuges, micropipettes, balances, wet chemistry meters, and other laboratory instruments.
  • Perform DNA extraction and purification, PCR, qPCR, and other molecular microbiology techniques where required.
  • Maintain laboratory hygiene, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Complete laboratory test sheets, analysis reports, records, observations, and calculations accurately and on time.
  • Follow laboratory Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, risk assessments, and quality requirements.
  • Handle hazardous and non-hazardous bottled gases safely, including gases such as hydrogen sulfide, in accordance with applicable procedures.
  • Comply with company Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality (HSEQ/HSE) systems and laboratory requirements.
  • Follow applicable quality management and certification requirements, including ISO 17025, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and relevant occupational health and safety standards.
  • Participate in quality assurance, compliance, risk management, and laboratory improvement activities.
  • Support the smooth and efficient operation of laboratory projects and day-to-day activities.
  • Undertake additional duties and professional development activities assigned by the Laboratory Manager.

Skills – Microbiologist

  • Strong understanding of microbiology laboratory practices.
  • Proficiency in aseptic technique, sterile technique, pipetting, sample preparation, microscopy, and laboratory testing.
  • Ability to prepare microbiological media and cultures.
  • Knowledge of dilution techniques and solution concentration calculations.
  • Experience using laboratory equipment such as autoclaves, incubators, centrifuges, micropipettes, and analytical meters.
  • Ability to accurately maintain laboratory records and prepare test reports.
  • Knowledge of laboratory health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures.
  • Ability to follow SOPs, technical instructions, and safety procedures accurately.
  • Good laboratory documentation and data-recording skills.
  • Molecular microbiology experience, including DNA extraction, PCR, and qPCR, is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of oilfield microbiology is an advantage.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a laboratory team.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Minimum 1 year of laboratory experience is required.
  • Candidates with 1–6 years of relevant microbiology or laboratory experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Candidates should have completed their studies and should not currently be enrolled in a full-time academic program.
  • Experience in oilfield microbiology or molecular microbiology is an advantage.
  • On-the-job training may be provided; however, prior experience in microbiology and general laboratory practices is preferred.
