Seeking a School Science Lab Assistant to support the effective operation of science laboratories in a leading school in Dubai. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing laboratory experiments, maintaining laboratory equipment and chemicals, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards, and supporting science teachers and students during practical lessons.
This role is ideal for candidates with experience in laboratory operations, science education support, laboratory safety, chemical handling, and inventory management within schools, colleges, or educational institutions.
Job Responsibilities
School Laboratory Preparation and Practical Support
- Prepare and set up science experiments, practical demonstrations, and laboratory activities in coordination with the Head of Science Department and Science Teachers.
- Ensure all required laboratory materials, chemicals, equipment, and apparatus are available before practical sessions.
- Assist teachers in organizing laboratory-based learning activities for students.
- Prepare specimens, samples, solutions, and laboratory resources as required for practical lessons.
- Support the smooth execution of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics laboratory sessions.
Laboratory Maintenance and Organization
- Maintain science laboratories in a clean, organized, and fully operational condition.
- Ensure laboratory workstations, storage areas, and preparation rooms are properly maintained.
- Perform routine inspections of laboratory equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
- Organize laboratory resources for easy accessibility and efficient use.
- Ensure all laboratories are secured and locked when not in use.
Inventory and Asset Management
- Maintain accurate records and registers of laboratory equipment, instruments, glassware, and teaching resources.
- Monitor stock levels of chemicals, reagents, laboratory consumables, and safety supplies.
- Update inventory databases and asset registers regularly.
- Assist in preparing annual requirements for chemicals, consumables, laboratory equipment, and glassware.
- Coordinate with management regarding procurement and replacement needs.
Health, Safety, and Compliance
- Implement and maintain laboratory safety procedures and best practices.
- Ensure safe storage, labeling, handling, and disposal of chemicals and hazardous materials.
- Conduct regular safety checks of laboratory equipment and facilities.
- Monitor compliance with school health and safety policies and laboratory regulations.
- Support emergency preparedness measures, including first aid kits, eyewash stations, fire extinguishers, and safety equipment.
- Report damaged, broken, or unsafe equipment immediately to the Head of Science Department.
Administrative Support
- Maintain laboratory records, safety documentation, inventory reports, and maintenance logs.
- Assist with laboratory audits and inspections.
- Participate in departmental meetings, staff meetings, and training sessions as required.
- Support school events, science exhibitions, STEM activities, and science fairs.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Head of Science Department or school management.
Required Qualifications – Lab Assitant
- Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Science, Laboratory Technology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Education, or a related field.
- Laboratory Assistant certification or science laboratory training is an advantage.
- Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and chemical handling procedures.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment, glassware, and scientific instruments.
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong organizational and record-keeping abilities.
Required Experience
- Minimum 1–3 years of experience as a Science Lab Assistant, Laboratory Technician, Laboratory Coordinator, or similar role.
- Experience working in schools, educational institutions, colleges, or universities is preferred.
- Practical knowledge of Biology, Chemistry, and Physics laboratory operations.
- Experience managing laboratory inventories and consumables.
