healthcare and hospital organization in Abu Dhabi is seeking a Physiotherapist to provide safe, effective, evidence-based, and comprehensive physiotherapy services. The role involves assessment, treatment planning, rehabilitation, patient education, clinical documentation, and collaboration with multidisciplinary healthcare teams.

The Physiotherapist will work with patients with a range of acute, complex, and rehabilitation needs and will be expected to deliver individualized treatment programs based on sound clinical reasoning and evidence-based physiotherapy practice.

Job Responsibilities

Clinical & Technical Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive physiotherapy assessments for patients with diverse, complex, and multi-pathology conditions.
  • Use advanced clinical reasoning, manual assessment techniques, and evidence-based practices to establish accurate physiotherapy diagnoses.
  • Develop individualized physiotherapy treatment programs based on patient needs, clinical findings, and rehabilitation goals.
  • Provide treatment using appropriate techniques, including manual therapy, electrotherapy, therapeutic exercises, patient education, appliances, exercise classes, and other appropriate rehabilitation approaches.
  • Develop accurate physiotherapy prognoses and recommend appropriate intervention plans.
  • Prepare comprehensive discharge and rehabilitation plans based on patient progress and clinical requirements.
  • Assess and record patient function, including strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency.
  • Regularly evaluate patient progress and modify treatment programs when required.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret clinical information to address complex clinical and professional problems.
  • Communicate effectively with patients using appropriate verbal and non-verbal communication methods, including when patients have communication or sensory difficulties.
  • Provide home physiotherapy services when required.
  • Accompany patients within or outside the UAE when physiotherapy treatment or rehabilitation support is required.
  • Provide interpretation support for patients when bilingual communication is required.
  • Maintain accurate and complete documentation of physiotherapy assessments, interventions, progress, and outcomes.

Teamwork & Supervision

  • Work collaboratively with physiotherapists, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Coordinate patient treatment and management with other healthcare professionals when combined care is required.
  • Supervise junior physiotherapy staff and assistants when assigned.
  • Ensure junior staff and assistants comply with applicable policies, procedures, and clinical standards.
  • Support the training and development of junior team members.
  • Deputize for the Senior Physiotherapist when requested.
  • Assist in the training and supervision of physiotherapy students when required.

Equipment & Resources

  • Ensure the safe and competent use of electrotherapy equipment, gym equipment, pool equipment, patient appliances, and rehabilitation aids.
  • Ensure junior staff and assistants demonstrate competency before using relevant equipment.
  • Monitor equipment and material inventory within the assigned work area.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and primary resources required for physiotherapy services.
  • Report shortages promptly and support replenishment of materials and equipment when necessary.
  • Ensure appropriate and safe use of physiotherapy equipment and resources.

Quality, Safety & Infection Control

  • Promote and maintain high standards of quality across physiotherapy services.
  • Support continuous quality improvement initiatives within the physiotherapy service.
  • Participate in clinical audits and report findings as required.
  • Ensure applicable SOPs and quality assurance requirements are maintained.
  • Comply with healthcare quality, safety, health, and infection control procedures.
  • Follow environmental safety and infection prevention and control measures to minimize the risk of cross-infection.
  • Practice within established organizational policies, procedures, professional standards, and scope of practice.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information and clinical records.
  • Document all patient interventions accurately using the required format.
  • Safeguard patients against abuse, neglect, and misuse of professional power, including physical, mental, sexual, or other forms of patient abuse.
  • Communicate professionally and courteously with patients, families, doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers.
  • Explain procedures, clarify treatment instructions, and communicate patient status appropriately.

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years of experience as a Physiotherapist in a large hospital or relevant healthcare setting.
  • Experience working with patients with diagnoses commonly managed in acute-care hospitals or rehabilitation facilities.
  • Strong knowledge of physiotherapy assessment, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and evidence-based clinical practice.
  • Ability to manage patients with complex or multiple clinical conditions.
  • Strong clinical reasoning and patient assessment skills.
  • Experience with manual therapy, electrotherapy, therapeutic exercise, patient education, and rehabilitation techniques.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
  • Strong understanding of patient safety, infection control, clinical documentation, and healthcare quality requirements.

Preferred Experience

  • Broad clinical experience across areas such as ICU, acute medical, and acute surgical care is preferred.
  • Approximately 1 year of demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience is desirable.
  • Experience supervising junior physiotherapists, assistants, or students is an advantage.

Recommended Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • CPR certification from a recognized provider.
  • Relevant physiotherapy or rehabilitation specialty certifications, depending on the clinical area.
  • Additional certifications in areas such as manual therapy, neurological rehabilitation, musculoskeletal physiotherapy, or cardiopulmonary rehabilitation may be advantageous.
  • UAE healthcare professional licensing/eligibility appropriate to the role and emirate is recommended.
