Medical Coder -Healthcare Management Abu Dhabi

Medical Coder in Abu Dhabi to join a healthcare team in Abu Dhabi and Medical Coder ensure accurate, compliant, and high-quality medical coding across inpatient and outpatient services. The ideal candidate will be responsible for translating clinical documentation into standardized medical codes using ICD-10-CM, ICD-9, CPT, HCPCS, and DRG classification systems, while ensuring full compliance with Department of Health (DOH) Abu Dhabi guidelines.

This role is critical in maintaining data accuracy, supporting revenue cycle management, and ensuring proper reimbursement through precise coding and clinical documentation integrity.

Responsibilities of Medical Coder – Abu Dhabi

1. Medical Coding & Classification (ICD / CPT / HCPCS / DRG)

• Assign, sequence, and validate the most accurate ICD-10-CM / ICD-9, CPT, HCPCS, and DRG codes based on physician documentation
• Ensure all diagnoses and procedures are correctly captured and reflect the actual clinical services provided
• Review inpatient records and compute appropriate DRG assignment for billing and reimbursement accuracy

2. Clinical Documentation Review & Accuracy

• Analyze medical records to ensure completeness, accuracy, and consistency of clinical documentation
• Identify secondary diagnoses, complications, and comorbid conditions (CC/MCC) for proper coding assignment
• Validate that final diagnoses accurately reflect treatment provided and patient care outcomes

3. Coding Compliance & Regulatory Adherence (DOH Abu Dhabi)

• Ensure all coding activities strictly follow DOH (Department of Health – Abu Dhabi) regulations and guidelines
• Stay updated with the latest coding standards, regulatory updates, and classification changes
• Maintain compliance with healthcare documentation and auditing requirements

4. Evaluation & Management (E&M) Coding

• Review physician documentation to assign appropriate Evaluation & Management (E/M) CPT codes
• Ensure accurate selection of service levels based on clinical documentation and coding guidelines

5. Revenue Cycle Support & Reporting

• Support hospital billing and revenue cycle management through precise coding practices
• Reduce claim rejections and denials by ensuring coding accuracy and documentation integrity
• Assist in audits and coding quality assurance reviews

6. Training & Knowledge Sharing

• Train and guide junior coders and Medical Records Technicians
• Provide updates on coding rules, regulatory changes, and best practices
• Support continuous improvement of coding quality across the department

7. Physician Communication & Feedback

• Communicate coding discrepancies and documentation gaps to physicians
• Provide constructive feedback to improve clinical documentation quality
• Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure coding accuracy

8. Continuous Learning & Professional Development

• Regularly update knowledge of latest ICD, CPT, HCPCS coding systems and DOH directives
• Participate in training programs, workshops, and coding certification updates

9. Additional Duties

• Perform any other coding, documentation, or administrative tasks assigned by the Head of Department (HOD)
• Support hospital-wide initiatives related to health information management

Qualifications – Medical Coder

• Bachelor’s Degree in Allied Health Sciences, Health Information Management, Nursing, or related medical field
• Minimum 2 years of medical coding experience in a hospital or healthcare setting
• Valid certification:
  • CCA (Certified Coding Associate – AHIMA) OR
  • CPC (Certified Professional Coder – AAPC)
• Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, DRG systems
• Familiarity with DOH Abu Dhabi healthcare regulations preferred
• Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal)
• Strong computer skills including MS Office and electronic medical record (EMR) systems
