Pharmacist to join a leading multi-specialty hospital in Abu Dhabi, providing a comprehensive range of primary and specialty healthcare services to patients from the UAE and internationally.
The Pharmacist will be responsible for carrying out daily pharmaceutical operations, including prescription review, medication preparation, compounding, dispensing, inventory management, and patient counselling. The role requires strict adherence to Department of Health (DoH) Abu Dhabi regulations, M42 policies, medication safety standards, and hospital pharmacy procedures.
The successful candidate will work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to promote safe, effective, and appropriate medication use.
Key Responsibilities
- Review, interpret, and validate outpatient prescriptions for accuracy, completeness, appropriateness, dosage, interactions, contraindications, and potential therapeutic incompatibilities.
- Prepare, compound, label, dispense, and deliver medications accurately in accordance with prescriptions and established pharmacy procedures.
- Ensure all pharmaceutical activities comply with Department of Health (DoH) Abu Dhabi requirements, M42 policies, hospital standards, and applicable pharmacy regulations.
- Provide clear and professional patient counselling regarding medication dosage, administration, duration of treatment, precautions, potential side effects, drug interactions, and adherence.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient medication profiles and pharmaceutical records.
- Identify and escalate prescription discrepancies, medication errors, allergies, drug interactions, and other potential patient-safety concerns.
- Coordinate with physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding medication-related queries and appropriate therapeutic options.
- Manage pharmaceutical inventory, including stock receiving, storage, dispensing, reconciliation, and expiry monitoring.
- Maintain appropriate controls and documentation for controlled medicines and other regulated pharmaceutical products.
- Identify, segregate, document, and arrange the appropriate disposal of expired, damaged, recalled, or unsuitable medicines.
- Follow proper medication storage requirements, including temperature monitoring and cold-chain procedures where applicable.
- Support medication safety, infection prevention and control, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure compliance with hospital policies and professional ethical standards.
- Participate in audits, inspections, quality programs, and continuous improvement activities within the pharmacy department.
- Stay updated on pharmaceutical regulations, clinical guidelines, medication safety practices, and developments in pharmacy services.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm or equivalent) from a recognized institution.
- Valid Department of Health (DoH) Abu Dhabi Pharmacist License or eligibility for DoH licensure.
- Relevant hospital, clinical, outpatient, or retail pharmacy experience is preferred.
- Candidates with relevant clinical exposure, pharmacy internship, residency, or supervised practical training may be considered depending on licensing and experience requirements.
- Strong knowledge of prescription processing, medication dispensing, pharmaceutical calculations, drug interactions, contraindications, and medication safety.
- Good understanding of UAE pharmacy regulations, DoH requirements, controlled-drug procedures, and pharmaceutical standards.
- Knowledge of current pharmacy practices, patient counselling principles, and evidence-based medication management.
- Ability to accurately review prescriptions and identify potential medication-related problems.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
- Good computer literacy and ability to work with electronic pharmacy and hospital information systems.
