Medical Coder wanted at a leading Medical Centre in Abu Dhabi. Medical Coder with strong expertise in outpatient medical coding and JAWDA audit requirements. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience coding across multiple outpatient specialties while ensuring full compliance with Department of Health (DoH) Abu Dhabi, ICD-10-AM, CPT, HCPCS, and Abu Dhabi health insurance regulations.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring coding accuracy, minimizing claim denials, supporting revenue cycle management, and maintaining compliance with regulatory and insurance standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Review outpatient medical records and assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes.
- Apply ICD-10-AM, CPT, and HCPCS coding standards in accordance with DoH Abu Dhabi guidelines.
- Code medical records for multiple outpatient specialties, including:
- Pediatrics
- Dental
- Obstetrics & Gynecology (OBG)
- Family Medicine
- Orthopedics
- Dermatology
- Radiology
- Ensure coding accuracy to support timely insurance claims and reimbursement.
- Verify medical documentation for completeness and compliance before coding.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and clinical staff to clarify documentation and resolve coding queries.
- Perform regular coding quality checks and internal audits.
- Participate in JAWDA coding audits and implement corrective actions when required.
- Monitor coding accuracy to reduce insurance claim rejections and payment delays.
- Stay updated with the latest DoH circulars, coding regulations, insurance policies, and healthcare compliance requirements.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of patient records in accordance with healthcare privacy regulations.
- Support continuous quality improvement initiatives related to clinical documentation and coding practices.
- Assist the revenue cycle team in resolving coding-related insurance denials and queries.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Medical Coding, Nursing, Pharmacy, Allied Health Sciences, or a related healthcare field.
- Professional Medical Coding certification is highly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of:
- ICD-10-AM
- CPT
- HCPCS
- DoH (Department of Health Abu Dhabi) coding standards
- HAAD/Abu Dhabi insurance regulations
- Thorough understanding of outpatient billing processes and health insurance claim requirements.
Experience Required – Medical Coder Abu Dhabi
- Minimum 2–5 years of outpatient medical coding experience in a medical centre, clinic, or hospital within the UAE.
- Proven experience handling JAWDA audits.
- Experience coding across multiple outpatient specialties.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records (EMR/EHR) systems.
- Experience working with UAE health insurance providers and claims submission processes.
- Strong understanding of documentation improvement practices.
- Excellent knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and disease classification.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- High level of coding accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while meeting productivity targets.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and healthcare information systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent certification.
- Experience with DoH-compliant healthcare facilities in Abu Dhabi.
- Familiarity with insurance claim auditing and revenue cycle management.
- Previous experience in multi-specialty outpatient medical centres.
