Part-Time Pharmacist – Healthcare

Part-Time Pharmacist wanted at a leading Healthcare in Abu Dhabi to support the day-to-day operations of the hospital pharmacy. The role is responsible for the safe, appropriate, accurate, and cost-effective use of medicines while ensuring compliance with hospital policies, pharmacy standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

The Pharmacist will work closely with physicians, nurses, patients, and other healthcare professionals and may assume responsibility for pharmacy operations in the absence of the Chief Pharmacist.

Key Responsibilities

• Interpret, verify, prepare, compound, and dispense medications accurately according to physicians’ prescriptions and hospital procedures.
• Ensure the Five Rights of Medication Administration: right patient, right medication, right dose, right route, and right time.
• Counsel patients and their relatives regarding medication use, dosage, administration, precautions, and potential effects.
• Dispense medications in appropriate forms, including tablets, capsules, ointments, injections, inhalers, creams, and syrups.
• Provide information and recommendations regarding over-the-counter medicines, medical equipment, and home healthcare supplies.
• Respond to medication-related queries from patients, relatives, physicians, nurses, and other hospital departments.
• Prepare sterile IV medications under appropriate aseptic conditions and ensure product quality and sterility.
• Ensure accurate and timely dispensing and distribution of medicines for both inpatient and outpatient services.
• Maintain accurate inpatient medication profiles and pharmacy documentation.
• Support medication approval processes with insurance companies.
• Monitor medication stock levels, shortages, near-expiry medicines, and stock rotation.
• Coordinate reordering and replacement of short-expiry or unavailable medicines.
• Maintain accurate inventory records and conduct pharmacy inventory audits according to hospital policies.
• Ensure medicines are stored securely and appropriately to maintain their quality, safety, and potency.

• Support medication-error management and pharmacovigilance activities.
• Maintain awareness of current medicines, availability, and relevant medication-related information.
• Supervise and support pharmacy technicians, interns, student pharmacists, and junior pharmacy staff when required.
• Support the development and implementation of pharmacy policies and procedures in accordance with hospital quality and accreditation requirements.
• Coordinate with the IT department regarding pharmacy information-system requirements and service improvements.
• Maintain effective communication with patients, relatives, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Ensure the pharmacy and related areas remain clean, organized, secure, and compliant with safety requirements.
• Perform other pharmacy-related duties assigned by the Chief Pharmacist.

Clinical & Technical Competencies

• Safe and ethical dispensing of medicines in accordance with applicable legal and professional requirements.
• Competence in sterile and non-sterile compounding according to recognized standards and guidelines.
• Ability to provide safe, patient-centered pharmaceutical care in collaboration with other healthcare professionals.
• Strong medication counseling and communication skills.
• Understanding of medication safety, pharmacovigilance, and medication-error prevention.
• Ability to maintain product quality, safety, integrity, and appropriate storage conditions.
• Good inventory management and medication supply-control skills.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary hospital environment.

Qualifications – Pharmacist

• Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm or equivalent).
• Fluent in English and Arabic.
• Previous hospital or clinical pharmacy experience is preferred.
• Strong knowledge of medication safety, dispensing practices, pharmacy operations, and patient counseling.
• Ability to work professionally and collaboratively with healthcare teams.
